I am James and I am a theatre director.  I work on an eclectic range of work, but predominantly with new writing.

My story (in brief):

I join a local drama club in St Albans because I am jealous of my friend Dave who is playing 'Boy' in a local production of Macbeth.

Join National Youth Theatre.  Do some shows... Relish with James Graham

 A-Level Drama.

-11: BA (Hons) Drama at University of East Anglia. Includes acting, writing, directing and dropping lights from the rig... First Class Honours.

-12: RADA. Foundation in Acting. A smidge more serious.

-14: I do a range of acting. Set up Speechless Theatre Company making 'plays-with-no-words'. Develop an obsession with clowning and mime.

Direct my first play. Positive by Shaun Kitchener at Waterloo East Theatre, London. I don't 100% know what I'm doing, but it does v.well.

-17: I get cast in a load of TV commercials. I act in more fringe shows and create more 'plays-with-no-words'. Direct shorter plays. Write short plays. Jack of all trades.

Join the Kings Head Theatre as a Resident Trainee Director. I stop acting. I work with Michael Fentiman as assistant director on Loot by Joe Orton at The Park Theatre, London. Mike and I get on. The show is a hit.

-20: I join Mike on 'The Importance of Being Earnest' in the West End. And we do 'Amelie the Musical'... and other bits. I now call myself a director.

-2021: I write a play - needs work. I also become a gardener. Not much theatre on. Could be better.

Return to Kings Head Theatre to direct the Queer Season headline play... All That by Shaun Kitchener. A few fringe nominations. Amelie the Musical is in the West End. I join Mike on 'The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe'. Go on tour with it.

Direct another drama school show. Narnia goes to the West End. I direct two shows at the Edinburgh Fringe for Seabright Productions. I join the Royal Shakespeare Company as an assistant director. Busy year.

Direct 'Kissed By A Flame' at The Pleasance. It has a revolving stage.

I use the revolving stage.  Another drama school show. I am rewarded Arts Council Funding to develop a show on gambling addiction. I lead revival rehearsals for Narnia at Birmingham Rep Company.

The gambling show gets in full swing... more to come.
